I’ve noticed that my son has complained about back pain since school started – could his backpack be to blame?

It’s certainly possible – wearing a backpack incorrectly, or carrying one that is too heavy are both risk factors in developing neck, shoulder, and back pain in children and teens. The heavy load can cause changes in posture or put pressure on the muscles and nerves in the area. Making sure to pack it right and wearing both straps can often help.
